Indians in Uganda to be involved in country’s policy process, says Museveni

President Museveni has said members of the Indian community in Uganda will be involved in the country’s policy making as they are part of those struggling to create wealth and economic growth to the East African country.

“Yes you are the ones who are creating wealth so why shouldn’t you be involved in policy decisions. You are free consultants. I just steal your knowledge at no cost to run my country better so what I will do, I will call your executive and you tell me what is needed. Here we shall do it because you are the ones struggling with wealth creation so you should tell us what is needed,” Mr Museveni said Thursday at State House, Entebbe where he and the First Lady Janet Museveni had hosted the Indian community in Uganda to Diwali dinner.

At the same event, Mr Museveni asked the Prime Minster Dr Ruhakana Rugunda to find land for the Indian community in Uganda to create a sports centre before he reiterated the need to include them among the local tribes.

“You are one of our tribes. Since we have got many tribes, what’s the problem of adding one more! I do not see any problem. We shall add the tribe of wahindi,” Mr Museveni said.
“Dr Rugunda see where we can get land. You might not easily get land in Kampala but even if it is a little bit 12 miles or 15 miles away, it’s not too far. You can still do something there …”
