Tuesday May 7, 2019-Fresh details have emerged over how President Uhuru Kenyatta stopped Chief of Defence Forces, General Mwathethe from handing over to Lt General Kibochi who was named his successor byNational Defense Council.
According to sources, NDC, the organ that determines changes in KDF named lieutenant Kibochi as the new CDF but a phone call from State House changed everything.
On Tuesday last week, President Uhuru Kenyatta met NDC and he urged them to extend the term of General Mwathethe by one year.
“H. E Uhuru Kenyatta, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of armed forces and the president of the Republic of Kenya, upon consultations with National Defense Council, extends General Samson Mwathethe’s term for one year, effective May 6th,” reads part of the memo that was sent to the press on Monday.
Both Lt Kibochi and AU-UN Humid Commander Lt General Leonard Ngondi were at pole position to succeed General Mwathethe given their ranking and experience in military.
